BCG Vaccine

BCG vaccination clinics are starting again in late September 2018.

Canterbury clinics will be run by Public Health Nursing Services. Your child will need to fit the criteria outlined by the Ministry of Health below.

The initial priority group to be vaccinated will be infants under the age of 6 months. Infants with birthdates from 1 June 2018 can now be referred. Please call your GP surgery and ask your practice nurse to refer your baby if they were born after 1 June 2018 and fit the criteria.

Criteria  (Who can have the vaccination)

  • Your child will be living in a house with family/whanau member who has a history of tuberculosis (TB).
  • During their first 5 years will be living for 3 months or longer in a country with a TB rate of >40 per 100,000 (refer to above link).
  • Your child has one or both parents or household members or carers, who within the last 5 years, lived for a period of 6 months or longer in a country or countries with a TB rate >40 per 100,000. For more information on this click here.
