Doctors on Riccarton, formerly Shand Crescent Medical Centre, was established in 1997 by Christchurch born siblings, Drs Colin and Adrienne Chin, both graduates of the University of Otago.  Colin’s wife, Marina, has been with the Practice from the outset, starting as receptionist/administrator and is now the Practice Manager.

The concept of the practice was to provide a family oriented service for the young people of Riccarton. There were a number of well-established practices in Riccarton already so the aim was to market the practice to the new families and students in the area. The Practice began operation in a small house in Shand Crescent but it soon became apparent that if we were to grow and expand our service, we would have to relocate. In January 2001, we moved to our new, purpose built premises on Riccarton Rd. In 2011 we expanded our building to allow for more services to be provided.

Today, we are a thriving, diverse medical practice. In addition to the usual primary care services, the comprehensive range of services offered include labour and delivery for maternity patients (Colin and Adrienne are the only GP Obstetricians still practising in Christchurch), an Xray facility introduced in October 2005, minor surgery such as skin cancer and lump removals, circumcisions and toe nail resections, fracture plastering, minor procedures such as steroid injections and complete, online immigration medicals.
